2013 Range Rover

Land Rover has launched its fourth generation Range Rover in India. The new Range Rover has been re-engineered from the ground up – it is more luxurious, as well as more capable off-road compared to its predecessor. According to Land Rover, the new Range Rover (L405) is lighter, stronger and more refined. The company says it is the world's first SUV featuring all aluminium monocoque construction, weighing 420 kgs lesser over the outgoing model (L322).

Interiors of the new Range Rover are spacious and more luxurious packed with loads of premium features. The car features full-time 4-wheel drive system, with a two-speed transfer box, working in parallel with the sophisticated electronic traction control systems. A plethora of systems ensure the Range Rover is one of safest and most comfortable vehicles to drive. The number of buttons on the dashboard have been reduced as well.

Indian customers will currently have a choice of the 5.0-litre 510 PS LR-V8 Supercharged petrol engine or the 4.4-litre 339 PS SDV8 diesel engine, both mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Land Rover will introduce the 3.0-litre V6 diesel variant in India around mid-2013. The V8 diesel Vogue is priced at Rs. 1.72 crores, the V8 diesel in Autobiography trim is priced at Rs. 1.79 crores, and the supercharged petrol V8 available only in Autobiography trim, is priced at Rs. 1.84 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi). While these prices might seem on the expensive side, utter craftsmanship doesn’t come cheap.

Renault Duster Export

Renault India has started exporting its compact SUV, Duster to the UK and Ireland. The export activity commenced with the shipment of the first batch of the Duster (with Dacia badges) from the Ennore port in Chennai. Renault India has made its first foray into right hand drive markets worldwide with the export of its first consignment of 350 Dusters to the United Kingdom and Ireland. Renault's manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai is the only facility to produce the right-hand drive Duster, which will be sold in the domestic market as well as exported from here.

The Renault Duster was launched in the Indian market in July 2012 and has created a good presence domestically, with around 19,000 units of the Duster being sold in India from July to November 2012. The Duster exported to the United Kingdom and Ireland will be available in both the 4×2 and 4×4 variants, while the India spec model will offer only a 4×2 variant. According to Marc NASSIF – MD, Renault India, they will continue to focus on meeting domestic demand in India, while also exploring new opportunities in exports and in making India the global hub for right-hand drive vehicles.

Renault India is a fully owned subsidiary of Renault S.A.S, France. Renault India was established in 2005 and in May 2011 introduced the Renault brand and its first product – Renault Fluence to customers in India.  Renault currently has five models in the Indian market – Fluence, Koleos, Pulse, Duster and Scala. Renault cars are manufactured in the plant located on the outskirts of Chennai in Oragadam with a capacity of 4,00,000 units per annum. Honda has launched the 2013 version of the Civic in North America at the LA Auto Show. The 2012 model was criticized for not meeting expectations in the American market. So Honda apologized and released this new and much improved model. While the coupe version remains unchanged, the sedan version's exterior gets lots of cosmetic changes making the car look much more aggressive and sporty. The steering has a quicker ratio, front suspension has been stiffened and the anti roll bars have been thickened to improve handling and make the drive as sporty as the styling.

With many improvements in the 2013 Honda Civic’s structure and sound-proofing, the NVH levels (noise, vibration and harshness) have been much improved. The interior has been made plusher by adding lot of soft touch materials for the dash, side panels and roof. Also option for an all-black interior has also been added in fabric or leather. The facelifted Honda Civic gets a host of new features which include voice recognition for the GPS system that itself has been upgraded, multi-view reverse camera, Bluetooth, Pandora, USB/iPod connectivity as well as color iMID display.

The 2013 Honda Civic has been made safer with lots of upgrades to the structure of the car as well as many features like ABS, stability and traction control, tyre pressure monitor plus Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems. The Civic also get side airbags in the front in addition to conventional airbags. The engine options available are the 1.8-litre i-VTEC, 140 BHP engine (petrol), 1.8-litre 110 BHP CNG engine and a 2.4-litre i-VTEC, 201 BHP unit for the Si sedan and Coupe versions. A hybrid is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with electric assistance.

Even though all these changes have led to increase in price by about Rs. 9000/-, the Honda Civic has become a much better car and addresses issues of quality and styling. With many features coming as standard, it seems to be worth the price hike. We are not sure if this new Civic will be launched in India, but with a new diesel engine in development, we may get this car with the new diesel by 2015, which is still quite some time away.

Hyundai/Kia Reimburses Customers For False Efficiency Figures

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 03:30 AM PST

Hyundai Elantra Launch

In North America, the US Environmental Protection Agency revealed that there was a discrepancy in actual and claimed fuel efficiency figures of many Hyundai / Kia cars by 0.5 to 1 km/litre. The cars affected were the Hyundai Accent (Verna in India), Elantra and Veloster. The highest discrepancy was for the Kia Soul which was 2.4 km/litre. This caused an outrage and customers demanded compensation for the extra money they spent on fuel as well as the resultant diminished resale value of the car. Total number of cars sold within this category is 9,00,000 in USA and 17,200 in Canada.

Hyundai/Kia responded immediately with an official public apology and a cash reimbursement scheme. The Korean car maker claimed that the discrepancy occurred due to procedural errors during testing in Korea. They have declared that each customer will get a gift card which will give them money back according to the number of kilometers run by the car, price of petrol in the area of the customer as well as a 15 per cent extra as an apology gesture.

Hyundai claims that 90 per cent of the customers are pretty happy with this scheme and are satisfied. Thus we can say that Hyundai narrowly escaped a major PR disaster which could have resulted in major defamation in one of their major markets. Owing to this, the sales of their cars have not fallen and continue to sell strong. This scheme is expected to cost Hyundai/Kia about 80 million dollars (Rs. 44 crore).

M Print – A BMW M6 Coupe’s Signature

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 02:30 AM PST

These days cars have the capability to think and make decisions. They determine the surrounding conditions and respond to them. There are several examples ranging from rain sensing wipers, follow me home headlamps, automatic opening boots to Land Rovers' terrain response system. In other words they are performing actions like humans. BMW USA has bestowed the cars with another attribute of signing documents.

BMW allowed its performance star car ‘The M6′, sign the letters for its BMW M (BMW Motor sport) fans. The M6 coupe used its rear wheels to leave an imprint on the papers which were laid down on the track. Ink was sprayed on the rear wheels from a pressurized container through a nozzle. The pattern thus produced on the paper was named ‘M Print’. A visual statement of the 0-100 km/hr sprint of the BMW M6 Coupe in just 4.1 seconds is recorded on the paper to make a one of a kind ‘M print’.

For your information there are two kinds of BMW M cars on road. The first kind rolls out directly from the BMW M division with performance upgrades, better engines and has a number attached to the letter M like M6, M3, etc. The second includes minor tweaking and changed aerodynamics. They can be recognized easily by the BMW M logo on the left shoulder of the boot and M stripes along the side seams adding the authentic M flavor.

More Details On The Chevrolet Sail Sedan

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 02:00 AM PST

Chevrolet Sail Saloon

General Motors launched its first SAIC product in India earlier this month, the Chevrolet Sail U-VA. The company will be launching the sedan version of the Sail, which is yet to be officially unveiled in India. The American automaker showcased the Sail hatchback at the Auto Expo earlier this year but the Sail sedan has never been seen in the India sans camouflage. We have got some interesting bit of details about the upcoming Sail sedan.

General Motors has postponed the launch of the Sail sedan and Enjoy MPV as the company wants to keep some gap between these product launches. The Sail sedan will be launched in the third week of January, while the Enjoy MPV will be launched in March 2013. Production of both these vehicles will start next month. While the Sail twins and Enjoy MPV will share their diesel engines, the petrol motor in the Enjoy will be the 1.4-litre unit found on the Aveo sedan.

The Chevrolet Sail sedan will use the same 1.2-litre petrol engine which is used in the Sail U-VA. This 1.2-litre Smartech motor produces 85 BHP of power at 6000 RPM and 113 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM. GM has decided not to go with the 1.4-litre petrol powertrain as it consumes more fuel. The company plans to pitch the Sail sedan against the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, which too uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine. GM’s main focus is however on the diesel-engined variants.

With the Chevrolet Sail Sedan being quite long in length, the company will not get excise benefits for using a smaller engine. However GM might consider offering the 1.4-litre petrol engine in the future on the top-end Sail. For the very first time, GM will offer an LTZ variant on a mass market product like the Sail in India, thereby helping them to position the car as a replacement for the Optra. The Sail doesn’t seem to be a fitting replacement to the Optra but GM thinks otherwise.

GM continues to test the Chevrolet Sail sedan in India. These set of spy pictures were sent in by Vikalp Dogra, who spotted the car at the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway recently.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 Still A Hot Buy!

Bajaj Pulsar 220 Wallpaper

With the increasing demand for performance bikes having good looks, the demand for fuel efficient bikes has decreased tremendously in all these heavy motorcycling years. The period between 2005-2012 has been most fruitful for motorcycle manufacturers introducing many new faces in the Indian motorcycle industry. As fast bike riders or performance bikers always look forward to the motorcycle power output as well as the looks, one of the ever favorite bikes is Bajaj Pulsar 220, not forgetting the budget in hand.

The motorcycle measuring the highest sales among all the other Bajaj Pulsars is the Bajaj Pulsar 220. The bike undoubtedly possess some of the most distinct and captivating features with a complete macho appearance attracting a huge number of customers in this price range. Even after the launch of the Pulsar 200 NS, the Pulsar 220 continues to attract buyers. The P220 has a very vocal engine and excellent headlight throw thanks to the use of a projector. It returns between 35 – 40 km/l mileage depending on the riding style.

This evergreen Motorcycle possesses not only good looks, but also good power output of almost 21 PS with an efficient 220 cc engine and having decent performance figures, keeping low on the price of well under a lakh. Although this bike was launched quite a long time from now and you might have already read much about it and seen hundreds of pictures of this great motorcycle, but still I could not resist my desire to do a good shoot of it. So, here are the pics. I hope you all like them.
