Porsche presents the new 911 GT3 Cup

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 11:50 AM PST

The seventh generation of 911, known under the name of 911, already has one year since it’s been on the road, and the launching of a rally model based on its platform was just a matter of time.

So, the new GT3 Cup is cast into the ralley battle field armed with a 3,8 litre engine with six cylinders in line which helps out the 453 HP delivered at 7.500 rpm. For the first time on a Porsche Cup model, the six-speed transmission can be controlled through the steering wheel, the power targeting remains the classic Porsche type, on the rear axel.

Since in rallies the tires are just as important as the engine power, GT3 Cup comes equipped with a Michelin tire set  27 cm wide in front and 31 cm wide in the back. The breaks system is another inovation, which comes with 380 mm ventilated disk breaks made of steel and piston calipers. According to Timo Bernhard, all these characteristics make the new GT3 Cup easier to drive to the limit, being a well ballanced model.
