Bajaj Auto has been steadily increasing its market share worldwide. The company wants to become a global player and is thus focusing on exports to boost volumes. In the past few years, Bajaj Auto has tried many things and learned quite a few lessons. Now the company has chosen to focus on its three core brands, the Discover, Pulsar and Boxer. Thus in the future we can expect Bajaj Auto to launch more variants from thes brands, which account for a major chunk of sales for the Indian motorcycle maker.

While the Boxer hasn’t seen much success in India, Bajaj Auto finds this rugged motorcycle an apt offering in countries like Africa, where the demand for the Boxer has been overwhelming. The 150cc Boxer did not find many takers in rural India as buyers are still critical of fuel efficiency, thereby opting for lower capacity alternatives. The Discover is going to be Bajaj Auto’s weapon of choice in the commuter segment, while the Pulsar will be aimed at the performance segment.

Bajaj Auto will bring out more versions of the Pulsar, including faired and fuel-injected variants of the Pulsar 200 NS in the future. The Pulsar 375 is already under development and the company says it is just the beginning for the Pulsar franchise. We are yet to see a TV commercial for the Pulsar 200 NS but the Bajaj Auto will bring one out soon. The reason for not airing a TVC for the 200 NS can be attributed to the high brand value of the Pulsar name. The company believes the Pulsar 200 NS can sell without much marketing.

Bajaj Auto is going to concentrate on EBIDTA (profits) rather than volumes. The company plans to take the Pulsar global and will launch the 200 NS in Europe in the near future. The 200 NS will be retailed through KTM showrooms in Europe, priced attractively to lure buyers. The Platina and Avenger will not be given any update as Bajaj Auto is not planning to invest in old platforms, since the return is not much. Thus the Avenger getting Pulsar 200 NS’ 200cc, triple-spark engine can be ruled out.

General Motors has launched its second SAIC product in India, the Sail notchback. The company is now turning its attention to its third product which will be positioned in the highly lucrative MPV segment, the Chevrolet Enjoy. This MPV was unveiled more than a year ago at the Auto Expo, but GM engineers have been busy testing the Chevrolet Enjoy extensively across the length and breadth of the country. While the exterior of the vehicle has been revealed completely, the interior remains a mystery. GM wants to win Innova customers with the Enjoy.

However rivalling the Toyota Innova is a task many have tried but with little success. The Innova has dominated the MPV segment since day one of launch and in spite of it being the costliest vehicle in its segment, it continues to be the leader. GM will certainly try to uproot the Innova by playing the value card. The Chinese van does boast of excellent interior dimension. Recently we had a chance to see the vehicle from inside and are quite confident about the Enjoy’s practicality being very high.

The Chevrolet Enjoy will be offered in 7-seater and 8-seater configurations. The 7-seater version will have captain seats in the front two rows. The leg room in the third row is quite impressive and could easily be class leading. The third row windows have butterfly flaps on the windows, a feature which competing cars don’t offer. The dashboard has five AC vents with three at the centre for better cooling. The audio system and instrument cluster is quite basic and the three-spoke steering wheel did not look very high on quality. The 15-inch tyres on the Enjoy are high in profile in the intrest of better ride quality.

While GM has evidently done cost cutting, the company hasn’t skipped on features and the Chevy Enjoy boasts of alloy wheels, rear wiper, fog lamps, keyless entry, etc. The launch of the Enjoy MPV will take place in the last week of March and deliveries will commence in early April. Power will come from the 1.3-litre diesel engine, transferring 78 PS and 205 Nm of output to the rear wheels. We expect GM to price the Enjoy very aggressively, with the base version being priced at around Rs. 7 lakhs.
